Interested in the new iPhone 3GS, but still under that three year contract with Rogers? Good news. Last night, via the @RogersHelps twitter account, we learned that Rogers has stepped up and offered some very aggressive discounts.
Here’s the message trail from last night that caught my attention.
I bought my iPhone in August 2008, so I qualified for the $500 savings. I got off the phone about an hour ago, having bought the iPhone 3GS 32G for $299 – the same price a new customer pays. To get that, I had to agree to extend my contract by 1 more year. That’s all. I even got to keep the old device, which I’ll probably give to one of my sons.
A sweet deal, no? Perhaps even more interesting was Rogers’ use of Twitter as the medium to get the word out. Although the account has just 765 followers, their choice to broadcast on Twitter was effective as the messages became widely re-tweeted.

This should open a market for reselling 1st gen 3G iPhones that are locked to Rogers.. I’ll give you 49$ for yours
Not so fast, buddy
I have a line forming to the left for mine.
A couple of items to keep in mind:
1. This upgrade will also give you a totally fresh battery. From an acquaintances experience the exchange program for iPod Touch charges about $90 for an exchange when your iPod Touch batter dies.
2. Keep in mind that the $99 iPhone 3G 8GB price from Rogers also requires a three year service contract commitment. So old iPhone 3G’s with no service contract should actually have a market price above $99! (hey, you can always try!) The value Rogers sees in letting you keep/sell your old iPhone is the potential for recruitment of new Rogers customers.
And virtually nothing for their subsidiary, Fido…
iPhone 3G is simply the best phone that i have owned. It is very stylish and its nice features. I also own an N97 but i like the iphone.
